How we choose studios

There isn’t one best studio for everyone. Our recommendations come from local practitioners’ visits and the studios’ published information. We look at seven things:

  1. Teaching. Clear instructions, useful feedback and options when a pose doesn’t suit you.
  2. The room. Light, sound, temperature and enough space to practise comfortably.
  3. Community. Whether you feel welcome and people have time to talk.
  4. Classes. The styles on offer and how easily the timetable fits your week.
  5. Price. Drop-in costs, introductory offers, memberships and what they include.
  6. Access. Getting into the building and taking part with different needs or abilities.
  7. Support for beginners. Whether a first class is easy to follow and you can ask questions.

These are recommendations, not a points system. We care about how a room feels, which helps explain our overall pick of Kenkō. We also recommend other studios for different styles and budgets.

No studio pays to be included, and there are no affiliate links. First-person comments in a review describe a contributor’s experience.

Prices and schedules are a snapshot. Check current details with the studio before booking. Older review dates stay visible when the facts haven’t been checked again.
