HIYOGA is the studio that turned hot yoga in Auckland into a genuine value proposition. Thirty dollars for thirty days of unlimited classes, in a purpose-built room kept at forty degrees in the middle of Queen Street, on the second floor of the QBE Building — there is no other intro offer in town that even gets close. The studio is run by a Yoga Alliance designated Master Yoga Teacher who wrote a meditation book with Harper Collins Australia in her twenties. If you have never tried hot yoga, this is the cheapest, least-risky way to find out whether you like it.

The founder

Rebeckh Burns is one of a small global cohort of Yoga Alliance designated Master Yoga Teachers — the marketing says one of twenty-eight worldwide, which I have not independently verified but the Master designation itself is on the Yoga Alliance International Registry. Her meditation book, Thought Miracles, was released by Harper Collins Australia in 2002 and described as a bestseller on her personal site. She has more than thirty years of teaching behind her, studied naturopathy and metaphysics, and runs teacher trainings, retreats, franchising and licensing alongside the studio.

The Queen Street room

Level 2 of the QBE Building, 125 Queen Street, in the genuine middle of the CBD. The hot yoga room runs at a consistent forty degrees with what the studio describes as a sophisticated heating and fresh-air system; the Hot HIIT Pilates room sits at about thirty-five. The interior reads as modern and chic but informal — exposed brickwork, polished floorboards, changing rooms with showers and cubbies. The aesthetic is closer to a city gym than to Kenkō Studios’ spa-grade Japandi, and the pricing reflects that.

The Henderson room

The second location at Level 1, 199 Lincoln Road, sits above Genghis Khan restaurant in a complex with La Porchetta, Pins Bowling and Geoff’s Emporium — a genuinely west Auckland location with 240 shared free parking spaces, which is its biggest practical differentiator from the Queen Street studio. The class menu is the core HIYOGA program — Hot Yoga, Hot HIIT Pilates, Yin, Vinyasa — without the aerial Fly Yoga offering that stays on Queen Street.

The classes

Seven formats across the timetable:

  • 26+2 Hot Yoga — the classic Bikram sequence at forty degrees, ninety minutes, also offered in a sixty-minute Express variant
  • Yoga Sweat 45 — a forty-five-minute hot-yoga format for people with a short lunch break
  • Hot HIIT Pilates — high-intensity Pilates with weights in thirty-five-degree heat, sixty or forty-five minutes
  • Fly Yoga — aerial hammock work, the genuinely uncommon class in Auckland: suspended hammocks for deeper stretches, inversions and dynamic poses. Queen Street only.
  • Yin — passive long-holds for the connective tissue
  • Vinyasa — flow at moderate temperature
  • Hatha — slower, steadier
  • A few Mandarin-language classes also run for the local community

The roster beyond Rebeckh includes Isabella Qiu (Bikram, Hot HIIT Pilates, aerial, personal training), Brian McCormack (26+2 Bikram), Adriana Symonds (Hot Pilates), Nalini Bodhi, Radhika Chawla, Ariane Gaudriller and Lisa Radovan, plus a small mention of Sensei Abtin for Kyokushin Karate.

Pricing

This is where HIYOGA really lives. The intro deals are the best in Auckland by a margin.

  • 30-day intro: $30 for thirty days unlimited (new students only)
  • 2-week intro: $49 for fourteen days unlimited, an alternative for people who would rather front-load it
  • Weekly unlimited: $30 a week
  • Weekly unlimited + mat and towel: $40 a week (HIYOGA-supplied mat and towel for the whole week)
  • 5-class mini pack: $79, no expiry
  • 10-class pack: $199, no expiry
  • 20-class pack: $299
  • 50-class pack: $899
  • 100-class pack: $1,399
  • Wellbeing Gift Pack: $199 for one month unlimited plus mat/towel
  • 6 Week Challenge: $299 for a structured programme

Mats rent at $4 a class. A single drop-in price is not published on the buy page; the system is intentionally pushing you onto a pack or membership. On ClassPass.

What people say

Reviews coalesce around two themes: value and community. Specific instructors come up by name — Eleanor and Ruby in older reviews (neither now on the staff page, so likely past teachers); current rosters get praise for clear cueing and the rooms being “kept wonderfully hot” with fans deployed when intensity tips over. Search-surfaced detail is thinner than I’d like — ClassPass blocks direct review fetching — but the consistent line is that for the money, the value is hard to beat.

Honest criticisms

Recurring notes from Google reviews. The 40°C room is genuinely tough on a first visit, with some beginners needing to sit out postures or leave the room. Peak slots on Queen Street, especially the lunchtime Hot HIIT Pilates and the after-work classes, get crowded enough that mats sit close and the changing rooms queue up. Mat hire is $4 and towel hire is $4, which adds up across a month if you don’t bring your own. The step-up after the $30 / 30-day intro feels steep to some. Rebeckh herself doesn’t teach every class; the wider team runs most of the timetable. Fly Yoga has a thin schedule (Monday evenings, Wednesday lunchtimes) and fills fast.

Practical

Queen Street: no parking on-site; meters on Victoria Street; Downtown carpark is the closest paid option; Britomart, Aotea (CRL) and Karangahape (CRL) all walking distance depending on which end of Queen Street you start from. Henderson: 240 shared free spaces in the building complex — by far the easiest car-borne hot-yoga experience in greater Auckland.

Who it’s for

Curious beginners trying hot yoga for the first time — the $30 thirty-day intro is the lowest-friction on-ramp in the country; hot-yoga devotees who want a true 26+2 lineage at the right temperature; budget-conscious practitioners ($30 a week unlimited is genuinely cheap for Auckland); aerial-curious students who want to try Fly Yoga without joining a circus school; west Aucklanders who would otherwise drive into town. Less suited to anyone heat-averse or wanting cool-room Vinyasa as a primary practice — try The Yoga Ground or Kenkō Studios for that.
